Where in the Schuylkill Highlands Am I?!?
In October, 2025, Estelle (Schuylkill Highlands Program Manager) visited a partner site that features rolling wooded hills, meadows, and a seemingly out-of-place gazebo. This site is now preserved open space due to a failed development project, and as evidenced by the abandoned backyard feature meant to lure homebuyers.
Below find additional photos from the day, including interpretive signage explaining the circumstances around this preservation project.
Where in the Schuylkill Highlands is this? It’s Natural Lands’ Green Hills Preserve, in Robeson Township, Berks County (553 Gunhart Road, Mohnton, PA, 19540).
Green Hills Preserve is a bucolic mixture of gently rolling farm fields, woodlands, and wetlands. A tributary to Allegheny Creek, a state-designated “Cold Water Fishery” stream, bisects the preserve.
While we did not receive any correct submissions for this challenge, we’d like to congratulate Chester County Parks & Preservation for coming close.
